rub feature
We love a good rub down, and applying these spicy touches to the deepest pores of anything about to hit the grill or smoker can truly make a magnificent meal. Check out our recipes and reviews as we tour the rubs.

The Saucy Joes Ultimate Rub
This one is great for chicken, pork and beef. It may also restore hair, loosen rusty nuts (don't go there) and pick up the kids after school. It's all in the delivery.

Seriously, I use this one on everything and mix up a generous batch each time I prepare it.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup coarse kosher or sea salt
1/4 cup light brown sugar (pack it firmly)
1/4 cup sweet paprika
2 tbs. New Mexico chile powder
2 tbs. freshly ground black pepper
1 tbs. onion powder
1 tbs garlic powder
1/2 tsp dried oregano

The Work
Rub this into chicken pieces and pork chops an hour before cooking. I always grill and finish w/ a good bbq sauce.

Notes:
You can also have fun with the types of ingredients you use. I have several different chile powders, for example, awaiting their turn in the next batch. Experiment and enjoy!

So Where Do You Go to Find
a Variety of Rub Recipes?

You can spend days surfing for rub and glaze recipes worth their salt, and for the most part if it's published somewhere it works. Obviously some recipes are better than others (see our SJ Brisket Rub) so we've decided to help you find some of the resources we know to be good.

About.com
This online collective resource continually gathers all manner of info from willing contributors. We found several pages w/ rub recipes, but we always start here.

Derrick Riches Guide to Rubs
Also on About.com, this roster of rubs goes into both dry and wet rubs. This guy lives for the bbq and his thorough approach makes for a great resource.

Garry's BBQ Pit
This site doesn't stand on pretense, it speaks from experience and shares favorite recipes (also including salsas and sides) with a taste for the bubba in all of us. Their motto: eat first, ask questions later.

Food Down Under
Over 700 recipes from all around the world (know your world flags) with a flair for spicing up every imaginable kind of meat -- it's a global language: fire, meat, yum.

Culinary Café
These folks have been BUSY. They've collected and tested so many good bbq recipes and techniques, it's a given they'd have some good rubs. Sure enough, there's fire in them thar hills. Good people too.
